ok, my baby boy will fall asleep happily in my arms but the second i try to put him down his eyes pop open. the only way he stays asleep for a stretch is my arms, what can i do?

Hold him until he is almost asleep, then lay him down and speak softly to him, sing and rub his forehead lightly. He should learn to go to sleep this way after doing it a few times. Once he is going to sleep with your help in this way, gradually start to leave him earlier so that he is still awake when you leave. Stop the touching first, but still sing or speak softly. Doing this should help to transition him to being able to fall asleep on his own. Try a musical toy such as the fisher price ocean wonders aquarium or just play a CD of soft music for him.
