need ideas on how to entertain my baby |
I have a 2 1/2 month old boy who stays up about 2 1/2 hours in between feedings. During this time I have to find ways of entertaining him. I have two different mobiles that he likes to look at, a mirror in his crib, he does tummy time for a short while, I take him out to the back yard for a bit ( he hates going for a walk in his stroller), I walk him around the house, I dance and sing for him which he likes, I talk to him and we smile at each other. Doing this three times a day every day is getting tough, does anyone out there have any ideas on how else I can entertain my baby? What do you guys do with your 2-3 month old babies? |

I used a baby gym. It has toys suspended above the baby within his reach so he can swat at them, which he will probably start doing soon. Often I would prop him up on the boppy so he could have a better view of the toys and what was going on in the room.I also had a reclining booster seat that I sat him in with toys in front of him. When he was very small and slouched I used the head support cushion from his car seat.
Although it is great to entertain your baby and give him lots of attention, it is equally important to let him get used to playing by himself. He nees to learn to entertain himself, and early is the best time to start. If he develops this skill now it will be easier for you later. If you don't give him this opportunity now he will become much more dependent on you to entertain him as he gets older. |

I have a 2 mth 3 wk old also and stay home all day with him. It's tough to keep him entertained for 2 straight hours but between dancing, singing, talking, watching the mobiles, swinging, baby gym and bouncy chair. We also watch the Baby Einstein DVD's for 3 month olds(which last for 30 minutes) and I place him in his high chair with head supports and roll him to wherever I am and explain in detail about what I'm doing. He has already been taught how to do laundry, fold clothes, put them away where they go, cook dinner, bake cookies, sweep the floor, change a cd on the stereo. It's great and sometimes I get some pretty big smiles (he probably just thinks I'm crazy) but we have fun til nap time comes around again. Babies just love to hear mommy! |

My daughter is 4 months old almost and she was very colicy. so entertaining her was even harder. she hated her stroller too, but i found that if you dont strap her in to the car seat when its clipped onto the stroller, she wouldnt scream. Now she is wonderful on walks, which not only makes them sleep better at night fro all the fresh air, but it gives the more to look at and is good to lose baby weight. She also loves watching me do s=dishes from ehr bouncer. she loves the sound of running water. |

I couldn't disagree more about baby einstein. Putting a baby in front of a TV is not beneficial or educational in any way, other than to give a parent a few minutes of quiet. It is, in fact, harmful. Yes, babies need stimulation, but that should come from live human interaction, not a TV. They also need some time to entertain themselves, with minimal stimulation. This is how they learn to play alone and be content by themselves without the need for constant attention. Ideally parents have a balance of interaction for a period of time, then time for the baby to entertain him or herself. TV is not recommended for children under the age of 2, except by the makers of the videos. |

i don' agree with no tv. My daughter watches tv. and has always. as long as it is educational it's fine and definatly not harmful. But I do agree you have to also ineract with your baby one on one of course. try a feather, a fluffy one from the craft store. Bring it toward, away let the baby toudh it and explain the way it feels and use it to tickle his cheeks. Between me singing the ABCs every times she cried and sesame street my daughter who is almost two can recite them perfectly and skip letters when you say them with her and count to twenty,so when in doubt ABCs 123s and just regular talking (no baby talk) about everything. Good Luck |
