night terrors
My three year old is DESPERATLY terrified to be in her own bed at night. Her toddler bed is next to ours and shes still scared. I need to have the light on also. she scares herself so bad that she shakes and sweats and I can tell that shes honestly scared. I pray with her and tell her shes safe but she insists shes not. I feel so bad for her and I want more info and advice on dealing with night terrors. Thank you for your advice.

Jennifer,

My granddaughter suffered from night terrors and the only thing that worked was background music. She would pick a CD to sleep to (She often wanted a particular song to repeat instead of the whole CD) and we let it play all night and then she turned it off in the morning. It seemed to make her able to focus on her surroundings quicker when she woke up and she seemed to feel in control of the music.

Good luck

hi Jennifer
My 2yo son's night terrors are sporadic and i have not been able to tell if there might be a precipitating factor due to the time b/w them. You can definitely tell when they are truly scared, plus my boy sleeps great the rest of the time.
I have had to bring him into bed with us a time or two and that is not something we like to do, but he has been inconsolable after his nightmare. I agree with the nightlight, the bed close to the wall, and a calming bedtime routine with stories and bath. The bath often helps them sleep so soundly. Good luck
