Weeing from the breast
My daughter is almost eight months old and has been exclusively breastfed since she was born (I could never get her to take a bottle). She eats three meals a day but breastfeeds at 10 am (when she takes her am nap) 1pm (when she takes her afternoon nap) and 7:30 pm (before she goes down for the night). I am thinking about beginning to wean her off the breast but have no idea how to go about it. I am worried especially because right now she uses breastfeeding as a comfort when going to sleep or taking a nap. She won't take a pacifier so I don't really have another method to comfort her. Any suggestions on what I should do? Thanks so much!

Babies tend to give up their morning nap first so I would start by eliminating the morning nursing first. Replace the nursing with rocking her and humming or singing (your child doesn't care what you sound like). Have a pacifier handing and if she goes for the breast, try to give her the pacifier. If she doesn't want that, try a small stuffed animal for her to cuddle. I would eliminate the nursing sessions one by one ending with the 7:30 feeding. And you do not have to go cold turkey. Hold out for 5 minutes then give her the breast, the next day, hold out for 10, etc. It will not happen overnight but it will happnen.

Another idea would be to start taking Sage as it decreases your milk supply. With my girls, I stopped producing and they stopped wanting to nurse.

Hope that helps.
