Homeschooling advice
I am really looking into homeschooling... I am still somewhat conflicted about it, but I was wondering if someone could point me to where I could find more information about the pros and cons of doing so? Maybe a book or a website? Some friends are supporting, some other are really trying to change my mind... I don't understand why people are so intense about it : :frown: Dani

Dani -
I am a homeschool mom (my kids are 10 and 15). About.com has a section on homeschooling and there are many wonderful support websites for homeschoolers. They nearly all contain good information for those considering or new to homeschooling. Just type "homeschool" into your search window and see what pops up. Also, check at your library or bookstore for anything my Mary Pride, a well-known and respected homeschooler who has educated many of the parents!

Also, check out the Home School Legal Defense Association (www.hslda.org) for information about the homeschooling laws where you live. They also have a free packet they will send (no paying shipping and handling, either!) to those who are considering homeschooling.

Let me know if you have any specific questions.

Sorry about the double post!

One reason people are so intense is that it is an emotional issue. Some homeschoolers believe they are doing the absolutely best thing for their kids, even that they are doing God's work - so they are naturally very defensive of their choice. Others feel guilty that they can't or choose not to do it for their kids and go overboard in justifying how important it is for kids to go to school and how good the schools are.

I'm moderate - I say to choose what works best for your children and your family. For a while I had one homeschooled child and one public school child. I was just going on what was best for each one at the time.

There's a website that has some products and curriculums that can help with homeschooling. Check it out at www.zoeylove.com
