Some kids are drawn to electronic games. You can shut them off if you don't like the idea, or you can use it to your advantage. For instance, Leapster has a great portable game console which has educational games from pre-K to 6th Grade. One of them was especially effective for my 5-year old pres-schooler, it's called "Letters on the Loose" and teaches kids how to trace letters on the buil-it screen with the provided pen. Letter tracing are mixed with fun little games where you find and catch all the letter of the laphabet. Once he knew how to trace the letters on the Leapster he felt more comfortable doing it on paper...
